October was Cybersecurity awareness month. But now that it is over, it doesn’t mean you can forget about it.
The Truth is the holidays are quickly approaching. That means most will be shopping online. An increase in advertising and emails. During the holiday season, you need to be extra careful with your online habits.
1. When receiving emails from stores or “known” entities. Hover your mouse over any links before clicking on them. Make sure they look legit when in doubt don’t click it.
2. If you do click on the links and are going to buy something. Before entering your credit card information. Take a moment to look at the site. In the upper left by the domain name is there a green security lock? Does the site match your vendor? In other words if you were purchasing from amazon, is the domain name amazon.com or is it amazon.somewierdplace.com?
3. Never jump on open Wifi’s to make purchases! We know it can be tempting but open Wifi’s can be traps for hackers to mine your data.
4. Make sure your computers are protected
a. With Antimalware. Antimalware will protect you from more than just viruses!
b. Secure DNS Protection. Secure DNS protection keeps you safe on the internet. Not only making sure the websites you visit are legit but that they are free of malware!
c. The computer is up to date with the latest patches. If your computer is no up to date with patches. It’s like arming the doors of your house but leaving the windows open.
I.T. is not a set it and forget it. I.T. and Technology, in general, is constantly evolving! You don’t have time to keep up on the latest, nor should you. Call the Experts that will keep you Safe
