The role of an I.T. partner has changed. How, you ask? Well, they need to be less involved in fixing computers and more involved in solving business problems. If your I.T. provider is just fixing computers for you, they can be doing a big disservice.
I have been in the I.T. field for 30 years and I have seen many trends with technology. Let me take you through a brief history lesson!
The year was 1992… A young and energetic lad takes his first steps into the technology field. That same year Windows 3.1 was born. For those that might not know, Windows 3.1 was the first Graphical Interface from Microsoft. PC’s had already been a staple in business for more than a decade.
When Windows came out, it started to change everything. The idea of having more than 1 application running at a time began appearing. By the time Windows 95 arrived, things were changing exponentially. The use of the Internet for business started to gain more traction. We started to use email as a form of communicating. Networking went from dumb terminals to distributed computing. Things were a lot harder to set up back then. The idea of Plug and Play was a concept. By 2000 every business had computers and every business connected to the internet. Technology was in full swing!
Fast forward 20 years. Most everything is done in the “Cloud”. Simpler, right? Wrong! While technology use has gotten seemingly easier, the world has gotten more complicated. There are businesses whose sole purpose is to commit cyber-crimes. They come up with new ways to exploit, steal and sell information. Cyber criminals are evolving every day. You don’t even need to be a genius hacker anymore, you can by ransomware as a service now on the dark web. I am not joking, put together services that handle everything all you need to do is find a target.
So, for me it’s not about fixing computers anymore, because the reality is that almost anyone can fix a computer! The mission of Underdog Computer and Network Support is to help businesses frustrated with Technology become to become stable, productive, and profitable! We do this not by fixing broken things but by focusing on resolving business problems. We specialize in identifying and reducing Risk, Adhering you to industry standards and Best Practices.
Risk could be gaps in your security by running your business on outdated software, not implementing proper backup solutions, or not having proper endpoint protection.
Once we identify Risk, we then see what the threshold is for that risk. A better way to put it is how much of that risk can you handle before it affects your business. If you have a line of business application server and it crashes, the question is how long can it be down before your business is affected? Once identified, we then find the right technology solutions that fit your needs.
We are not your Grandfathers I.T. Company! The days of just fixing computers is over. You need someone who can advise and strategize your business using technology.
